German Frers is a naval architect and engineering firm who design sailing yachts and has had a strong association with yachting brands such as Nautor Swan and Wally. Frers has two locations, one in Buenos Aires, Argentina and the other in Milan, Italy. Buenos Aires is the main office and is led by German Frers. While the Milan office is headed up by German “Mani” Frers, Jr. Both offices have a support team of architects, designers, technical and administrative support, and both offices support each other. German Frers gives their customers the benefit of two entire teams working behind the scenes to make their superyacht project perfect.
With over 1,000 yachts designed and built collectively, the two Frers specialize in racing yachts and superyachts. The latest of these designs are the Hylas 66, a production model sailing yacht with the client’s choice of a flush deck or a pilot house. This yacht has two guest quarters, an owner’s suite and a crew cabin. Add to that the classic exterior design and technology and the Hylas 66 is considered one of the best production boats made. The 2008 London Boat Show will feature the brand new Hylas 51.
The one and only power boat that can be found by designers Frers is the Milonga 35’. Launched in 2005, Molonga is right up to Frers’ standards as a luxury boat with the latest technology and the power owner in mind. This is a small but efficient beauty that more than matches any power boat competition.
Racing boats is the passion of German Frers. The design teams’ racing yachts have done very well in all of the major races, gaining popularity for Argentinian boat design back in 1971 when Matrero did well in the Admiral’s Cup when sailed by the Argentinian team. Since then, Frers has been on top of cutting edge technology to make some of the most sought after racing vessels in the world.
Some of the technology used includes state of the art computer programs that allow for 3D designing, velocity predicting, and performance and compliance analysis. Tank and wind tunnel testing still remains as an important part of the design process as well. Mixing new technology and up to date old technology is what puts German Frers above others in his craft.
