The Amels yacht company is a Dutch luxury yacht builder founded by the Amels family in 1918. Earlier the company had a reputation as builders of a wide range of commercial vessels and naval craft, however from the early 1980's the yard commenced the building of luxury private yachts of over 40 metres in length. To ensure the highest standard of finish the very best of Dutch craftsmen are selected.
Early on Amels built such yachts as "Lady Ghislaine", My Gail III", "Jamaica Bay", "Katalina" and "Lady Duvera". In 1987 The ownership of the yard changed hands from the Amels family to CTS Group, an investment company based in Bermuda, and then back into Dutch hands when Damen Shipyards Group acquired the yard. The Damen Shipyards Group consists of 34 major shipyards and operating companies around the world and has built more than 4,000 commercial and military vessels. The group currently employees nearly 8,000 skilled workers and has nearly one billion euros in annual turnover.
More recently, Amels Holland B.V. have extended their reputation still further having built and delivered such yachts as "Sheergold", "Secret Love", "Katamarino", "Maupiti" the 47 meter diesel electric driven exploration yacht with its unusual helicopter facilities, "Montkaj" with 75 metre length at the time of completion the biggest megayacht ever built in the Netherlands. The company also has a successful series of yachts in the 50 to 52 meter range which is still continuing.
The Damen Shipyards Group also acquired Royal Schelde a 125 year old renowned Shipyard based in Vlissingen and Amels secured an important section of the superb Schelde shipyard for its own use and has renamed this facility Amels Schelde. This provides extra capacity for new yacht building, repair and refit contracts. These superb covered construction facilities enable the Amels yacht design and engineering team to develop the next generation of superyachts.
