Murray & Associates LLC is a naval architecture firm based in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, USA. Whether they like it or not, Murray & Associates have recently claimed their fame when refitting 228 foot helipad on the Floridian, featured on the August, 2008 issue of Power and Motoryacht Magazine as one of the 100 largest megayachts in the world. Prior to the Floridian, the firm designed the refitting of the Helios, which won the award for best refit of 2007 by Showboats International. Other recent refits have included the Turmoil, the Pangaea, the Lady Madeline, and the Paladin.
Some recent new builds designed by Murray & Associates are a Newcastle 164’ motoryacht, a 180’ full displacement motoryacht, and a 144’ metalnave trideck. Murray & Associates has also performed numerous stability tests on yachts such as Reverie, Summerwind, ZaZa, and Lotus.
Other services that Murray & Associates offers are performance analysis, on-site project management at shipyards during builds, and even an expert witness service for legal cases, which has recently been utilized in at least four cases. These cases include an ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) case against a cruise line, a sinking, and two salvage claims.
Murray & Associates LLC is an established firm that has worked for builders and customers around the world. The reason this firm is sought after is because of its extensive use of state of the art technology, as well as their dedicated staff of highly trained, degreed engineers. Several staff members have worked aboard vessels and some have their Merchant Marine license. Murray & Associates Interiors works with the interior designers on projects to offer technical support, CAD design, drafting services, and conceptual design. Murray & Associates Interiors is equipped to offer support on yachts from 50’ to 150’ or larger. The technical experts of the staff have recently completed support projects on Hilarium and Altisa, and have six projects in the works.
The Sydney 60 might be the most popular model of yacht that Murray & Associates has had a hand in. This 60’ sloop rig sailing yacht offers a strong yet lightweight Kevlar hull allowing for speed, and accommodations for up to 10 guests. This is likely the most popular because there were many sold, and many on the market around the world. One Sydney 60 is in negotiation in Auckland, New Zealand, and another for sale in Genoa.
Murray & Associates LLC has had their hands in many, many projects and often don’t get the credit and, dare I say, notoriety that they deserve, whether they want it or not. They have designed or refit some of the most famous superyachts in the world and have been recognized for it, but not nearly enough.
